Abutilon – Lantern Hibiscus is a charming Abutilon, also called Chinese lantern or flowering maple, that is easy to love for its hanging, paper-lantern blooms. The bell-shaped flowers dangle gracefully from slender stems and often show fine, contrasting veins, so the plant looks pretty even from a distance. It grows best in bright light with a little afternoon shade and a loose, well-drained potting mix. Water when the top of the soil feels dry, feed once a month and trim lightly after a flowering flush to keep the shrub bushy. A lovely choice for balconies, patios, shaded borders and large pots.
